Top Tips for Clearing 2015

Even though Clearing may seem months away, planning your Clearing strategy ahead of time should be a main priority.

Here are our top tips for 2015 based on our key learnings from previous Clearing campaigns.

1)    Devise a strategy ahead of time – Which courses or faculties have seen a reduction in applications this year? What marketing activities have worked particularly well for previous Clearing campaigns? What developments have there been in the digital space in the last year and how can you implement these in your student recruitment campaigns?

2)    Choose variety – Rather than focussing all your efforts on one online platform, split your budget across a variety of channels, social media, remarketing, search marketingcontent marketing, content amplification and display advertising. Depending on which courses or faculties you wish to focus on, some platforms or ads may work better than others. Make note of these key learnings for future campaigns.

3)    Plan for mobile – With young adults spending more time on their mobile devices than desktop computers, it should be a paramount that your site is optimised for mobile. Mobile marketing should be a key platform within your clearing 2015 marketing mix.

4)    Engage with content – Video content is highly shareable and its presence across social media sites has grown in the last few years. Facebook in particular has a large share of video content in the online market. Adapt this to your marketing campaigns by creating engaging video content, whether its information about the application process or particular courses. Keep your videos short at around a minute to keep the users attention.

Animated explainers have become particularly popular as an effective means of presenting information in an engaging and eye catching format. Use animation and graphics to draw in your target audience and utilise videos ads on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook to reach a wider audience.

5)    Monitor social media – We expect even more prospective students to be asking questions around Clearing through social media channels. Make sure you have the capacity to monitor and respond to these communications, whether positive or negative in a timely and informative manner. Putting in that extra bit of effort shows you really value the student experience at your University.

At Touchpoint Digital, we work with many clients on a number of their Clearing campaigns. It is our aim to meet your student recruitment objectives and requirements during this important time of year.
